For SF, language training is done at the language lab at Bragg, not DLI. Many of the answers here are for those attending the formal language school – DLI at the Presidio of Monterey, CA.
Language training during SF is spread out throughout the Q Course. Contact a SF recruiter for details, or find it at the SF Recruiting site: http://www.bragg.army.mil/specialforces/…
The core languages used in SF are: Chinese, Korean, Tagalog, Indonesian, French, Arabic, Persian Farsi, Russian, German and Spanish. However, they do train in many others. Language will be assigned based on your DLAB and you will be put in the Group based on your language in accordance with the Group’s area of operational responsibility. Every now and then some oddball language does end up in a mismatched Group – like a Thai speaker in 10th…or a Spanish speaker in 5th.
My husband is Psyop but he did language with special forces people too. I think he got to put a preference down as to what language but they ultimately pick it for you. For him and his buddies it was 4 to 6 months. Arabic and Farsi were the 6 month ones (of anyone we know) and French and Indonesian were 4 months. Not sure for other ones but I think the length of training relates to the difficulty of the language. Also that was if you passed your DLPT at the end and didn’t have to retrain.
It depends o what SF Group you are assigned to.
Each group is assigned a different geographic area.
You would learn a language, in your assigned area.
Depends on what language you sign up for and at what rate you can learn.
depends on the language. German, for instance is like 8 months. Chinese…2 years.
they’ll pick your language for you…it depends what score you get on the DLAB…idk how long it is though
